Avocados As Fuel

Avocados as fuel
To reduce dependence on conventional energy sources of fossil fuels (oil / gas and coal) as an energy source is not renewable with all its problems, it will look to other energy sources as an alternative fuel or replacement as long as its resource potential readily available locally so the price is cheaper and affordable.

Biodiesel is one of the alternative fuels that are environmentally friendly because biodiesel can reduce emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) of about 50%, carbon dioxide (CO2) of about 78.45%, and sulfur-free. Biodiesel can be obtained from plant oils derived from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, animal fats and used cooking oils through esterification and / or transesterification with an alcohol and a catalyst support.

When we had been aware of any fuel produced from castor oil, it turns out we also found other types of plants that can produce oil as an alternative fuel is oil from avocado seeds

One source of biodiesel feedstock is avocado. Part of the avocado can be used as biodiesel are the seeds. This material (seeds avocados) is waste that so many people throw it away after using the fruit flesh. Though avocado seed contains vegetable fats composed of compounds that can produce oil. This compound is very unique because it has the same composition with diesel fuel diesel. In addition, levels of sulfur in avocados lower than the levels of sulfur in diesel fuel. This makes the combustion is perfect so dump gas is more environmentally friendly.

In addition, an avocado seed biomass materials containing triglycerides and free fatty acids (FFA) on avocado seed oil low at 0.367% so it can be used as biodiesel by transesterification process.
avocado oil content is higher than crops such as soybean, castor, sunflower, and peanuts which contain 2638 liters / ha. However, avocado oil content is lower than oil.

The main ingredient in the form of an avocado seed, solvent n-hexane, H3PO4 85%, 99.9% methanol, solid NaOH (Natrium Hydroxide), magnesium silicate adsorbent, and distilled water.
In the manufacture of biodiesel from avocado seeds with transesterification process is divided into 3 phases, including:

Preparation stage, the stage of the treatment is done before an avocado seed oil taken using extraction and distillation process. Things do is grinding beans, avocado and avocado seed heating to reduce its water content
experiments stage, this phase is a major step in the manufacture of biodiesel (methyl ester). It is to determine the level of the catalyst by counting the number of titrated NaOH, making sodium methoxide and subsequent transesterification process followed by washing biodiesel
Completion Stage, a stage for analyzing the properties of biodiesel consisting of the test flash point, viscosity and density. From the experiments we did, it can be concluded that the longer the reaction time, the more yield produced.

The best cleaning method in the manufacture of biodiesel from avocado seed oil is a dry washing with the acquisition of methyl ester content of 84.57%, while washing with water to produce methyl ester content of 82.71%.
